Posse with Liberation Zones

6x4 - Gang with Liberation Zones

12 minutes 👥 12 runners. 30x25m
AREA AREA AREA AREA A A A A A A D D D D Posse (6) Spread pressure (4) Zone

Organization

  • 30x25m field divided into 4 quadrants
  • Each quadrant has a release zone in the corner
  • 6 players in possession spread across the field
  • 4 defenders spread out — active pressure all over the space
  • Objective: Complete 5 consecutive passes and then dribble the ball into a release zone

Rules

  • Possession: 5 passes → a player carries the ball into any scoring zone = point
  • Defender recovers → leads to any scoring zone = point for defense
  • After each point, restart with possession in the center.
  • Maximum 3 touches per player in possession
  • 4-minute series. 3 sets with 1-minute rest.

Training Points

  • Spread possession — no players stand still. Constant movement to create open passing lanes
  • After 5 passes, the player who will drive to the zone must already be in motion before the last pass
  • Defenders: Coordinated pressure — close space towards the ball, not each in their own area
  • Recovering defender: decide immediately which zone to drive to — without hesitation
  • Communication: Call out the passes aloud — creates rhythm and collective awareness

Variant / Progression

Increase to 7 passes before being able to enter the zone. Add rule: the player who made the last pass cannot be the one driving into the zone — forces wider circulation and movement from other players.

8x5 practice with 4 mini goals

8x5 - 10 Passes -> Goal / Defender Recovers -> Shoots Directly

18 min 👥 13 plays. 45m x 35m
G1 G2 G3 G4 A A A A A A A A D D D D D Posse Spread Pressure (5) Mini goal

Organization

  • 45x35m field with 4 mini goals in the corners
  • 8 players in possession spread out — no fixed positions
  • 5 defenders spread across the field - active pressure all over the space
  • Posse: complete 10 consecutive passes → can shoot at any mini goal
  • Defender regains possession → shoots directly into any mini goal — not counting passes

Rules

  • The pass count restarts from zero with each interception or out of bounds.
  • Maximum 2 touches per player in possession
  • Defender after recovery has 5 seconds to finish — creates urgency on the transition
  • The ball cannot stay with the same player for more than 3 seconds.
  • Series of 6 min. 3 sets with 90 sec rest

Training Points

  • Formation: Maintain width — players in the 4 corners of the field to stretch the pressure of the 5 defenders
  • Count the passes out loud – it creates a collective rhythm and the group knows when they can finish.
  • Starting from the 7th pass, a player begins to approach the nearest mini-goal—anticipation
  • Defender: pressure the ball as a unit, not individually — close down the space to the ball carrier
  • After recovery: immediate decision on which mini-goal to attack — training reading space under time pressure

Variant / Progression

Add 2 neutral jokers always in possession. The pass count goes up to 12. The defender who recovers now has only 3 seconds to finish. Increase pressure on both sides.

Intensification · Progression

Posse 8x5+2 Jokers — Maximum Pressure

8x5+2 Jokers — 10 Passes + Forbidden Zone / Defender Finishes Directly

20 minutes 👥 15 runners. 50m x 40m
AREA FORBIDDEN G1 G2 G3 G4 A A A A A A A A J J D D D D D Posse Jokers (2) Pressure (5) Mini goal

Organization

  • 50x40m field with 4 mini goals in the corners
  • Forbidden zone in the center of the field — possession cannot pass through the central zone
  • 8 players possession + 2 jokers (always with possession, max 2 touches)
  • 5 defenders spread out — active pressure without a fixed position
  • Possession: 10 passes → finishes in any mini-goal
  • Defender recovers → finishes directly without counting passes

Rules

  • Forbidden zone: ball through center = opponent possession
  • Forces you to move through side corridors and behind — richer movement
  • Maximum 2 touches for everyone (including jokers)
  • Defender has 4 seconds to finish after recovery
  • 7-minute series. 3 sets with 90-second rest.

Training Points

  • Forbidden zone requires using the corridors — training exits on the sides and rear of the pressure
  • Jokers should occupy the spaces between defenders — never standing alongside the carrier
  • Stance: Max amplitude in the four corners—stretch the five defenders to create space between them
  • Defender: after recovery, immediately look towards the nearest open mini-goal — make a decision in 1 second
  • The coach can freeze the exercise to correct the positioning of the jokers — it's the most difficult point to execute.

Variant / Progression

Remove the jokers and play pure 8x5. Keep the forbidden zone. Possession now needs to be even wider and faster to compensate for the loss of the jokers. Reduce the number of passes to 8 to maintain a high pace.

9x9 Game with Possession Rules

9x9 (8+GL) - Full Application with Topic Rules

22 min 👥 18 runners. 🏆 Application
GL 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 GL D D D D D D D D Yellow Time (8+GL) Red Time (8+GL) Ball

Game Rules

  • 2 big goals — one on each side — with goalkeepers
  • Possession time: 10 consecutive passes → can shoot. Goal worth 1 point
  • Team that recovers the ball: shoots directly without counting passes. Goal is worth 2 points
  • Goal after 15+ consecutive passes is worth 3 points
  • Goalkeeper forced to play short — direct long kick = opponent possession
  • If the ball goes out on the team in possession, the count restarts from zero.

Series Progression

  • Series 1 (7 min): Rules above. Free for all
  • Series 2 (7 min): Maximum 3 touches for the team in possession
  • Series 3 (8 min): Maximum 2 touches. The team that recovers has 4 seconds to finish. Free play in the last 2 minutes.

Training Points

  • Goalkeeper: Always distribute to the furthest free player, never the closest. Scan before receiving.
  • Possession time: maximum width — cover all 4 channels of the pitch to stretch the opponent's block
  • Counting passes out loud — starting from the 7th pass, a player already turns towards the goal
  • Time without possession: organized pressure towards the ball — never more than 2 players in the same lane
  • After recovery: immediate decision — drive or pass to finish within 4 seconds
  • Coach values transition goals (2 points) - encourages intense pressure after loss
